Live life to the full at St Johns’
St Johns’ House is a Residential Home, offering a Sherborne town centre location for independent living in later life. We are not registered to offer care or nursing facilities and the layout of the house requires a degree of mobility in order for residents to live life to the full while they are with us.
Each of our en-suite rooms are unfurnished, with power points for television and telephone, carpets and curtains. New residents usually bring some personal items with them – a well loved armchair, bed or pictures, can make people feel immediately at home, which of course is how we want everyone to feel at St Johns’.
Home cooked food is an important part of each day at St Johns’ and meals are served in our 15th century panelled dining room (apart from early morning tea which is served to rooms), which provides an opportunity to share meals together and enjoy the company of others.
Meals are provided as follows:
Early morning tea – 7.00 am
Breakfast – 8.45 am
Morning Coffee – 11.00 am
Lunch – 12.30 pm
Afternoon Tea – 3.30 pm
Supper – 5.45 pm
and Bedtime Drink
Each room is equipped with a call button should assistance be needed and there is a member of staff on call 24 hours a day. We have a light comfortable ground floor sitting room and on warm days residents can enjoy tea in our sheltered gardens which feature lawns, raised beds and outdoor seating.
There is also a historic chapel where we hold a service every Friday and Holy Communion once a month for any resident or their family wishing to attend and of course we are just down the path from Sherborne Abbey.

An application pack is available from the Manager but we would initially welcome you to come and see what we have on offer before completing the form. If you would like to take the next step, and a room is available, we will ask your GP to complete a short medical questionnaire and the Manager will write to your nominated referees. You would then attend a friendly interview with the Manager and Assistant Managers and have an opportunity to ask any questions, or meet other residents, before making your final decision.
If no rooms are available, your name will be placed on a waiting list, which is reviewed regularly.
Residents pay a monthly maintenance contribution to St Johns’ and this is reviewed annually. Assistance by way of housing benefit and supporting people may be available, according to individual needs and financial eligibility. The current fees are dependent on the room and start at £1830 pcm (which includes all meals, housekeeping and personal laundry).
